The idea of the project is to generate the concept through creature scanning exercise. Dragonfly was selected based on its lifestyle, characteristics and symbolism. The lifestyle from water to the air so do the location of the site next to the river. The characteristics as in the leg (column) as a supporting structure of the body (main building structure), position in different height and position with different views. The skin of the building referred to the form of the dragonfly. With the characteristic of the dragonfly’s eye that are able to view out but not in, creates a private area for the hikers, located at the ground floor that area invisible from the entrance, separated space between private and public area.
Dragonfly symbolize the power in summer under the sunlight and warmth, a place where the hikers can rest and enjoy. By using the fabric membrane as the shelter of the building, it allows the sunlight to enter the space but not the heat. The building was shaped and formed based on the site orientation. Dragonfly got a shorter lifespan but still it tries to live in the fullest, and so do the stay in time of the hikers. The Hiker’s Base Camp is to provide a private and comfort space for them to enjoy the roof garden, the open area for view and at the same time enjoy the time in the building. The building was using the local source timber as the building structure, in order to minimize the pollution of the area.
